Success 20

Audio Introduction to Success 20

The Success 20 program was developed to help participants address and overcome their barriers to sustainable employment. The 20 day program takes a two part approach; employability workshops combined with an independent work or skill building project.

The workshop component is informal and discussion based. Clients are encouraged to draw from experience and to self-identify their strengths and barriers. There is an underlying theme of group cooperation and maintaining a positive attitude throughout the month. Workshop topics may include:

  • Confidence Building
  • Communication
  • Stress Management
  • Goal Setting
  • Teamwork
  • Resume building and Interview Skills

The independent work or skill building component gives clients an opportunity to develop transferable skills, including: computer use, research, writing, presentations, critical thinking, customer service, and of course, the importance of maintaining a commitment to a self-directed project from beginning to end. Skills are developed through a chosen work project. This allows for a more individualized approach and gives participants a chance to develop skills applicable to their chosen direction.

Participant Criteria

  • Recipient of ESIA
  • Any age
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Identified by case worker as being an individual who will benefit from the program

Success 20 Participant Quotes

“I leave the program with something I haven’t had in a long time-hope. I’ve learned that I have a great deal to offer an employer and that I deserve to aim for more in life that simply a job to pay the bills.”

“Success 20 is the best course I have ever taken. It touches on very important issues in the work force today, such as self esteem, what employers are looking for, making an effective resume as well as goal setting and values within society. I think that this course will benefit any one who takes it, because I saw first hand the growth and progress I have made, as well as my peers.”

“Success 20 has been instrumental in giving me the confidence and tools to know myself worth and see my place as a productive member of society.  I am walking away more confident, and hopeful of my future than I had ever been in my life up to this point. This program is valuable beyond compare, as it provides an encouraging environment and I’ve never felt so valued and respected. I thank them for their time and effort, respect and encouragement.”
