Animal Assisted Therapy

Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a therapeutic process. The “Therapy Triangle” (patient–therapist-animal) creates an ideal therapy atmosphere. Animals help participants feel relaxed, and comforted. The acceptance, warmth, and lack of judgement helps the patient overcome obstacles.

AAT can help alleviate emotional disturbances, depression, stress and anxiety, trauma, PDD, ADD, ADHD, and OCD, while increasing social and communication skills.

The Animals

Gucci enjoys being social. She loves people and the outdoors. Her favourite pastime is getting her belly scratched. If she could eat any food for the rest of her life, it would be sushi.

Henry loves hanging out with his friends, chilling on his pillow and eating blueberries.

Churchill is all about affection- giving and receiving. He loves hanging out with his moms Gucci and Yana, and eating every food.

Reachie leads a simple life. His favourites are blue rocks, eating, and swimming. Reachie is an advocate for peace- he’s striving to bring it to the world one bubble at a time.

Booking a Session

The therapeutic process usually consists of 4 introduction sessions (creating initial connection, trust, goal settings), 16 process sessions and 4 separation sessions.

Each session is 45 minutes long, and their frequency is weekly. This process is dynamic and depends on the client, their needs, goals and possibilities.

This service is not funded like our other programs and therefore there is a cost associated. The full price would be $100 and it is not covered by health insurance, but reachAbility is currently subsidizing 50% of the costs, allowing the client’s fee for one session to be $50.
