We had a great Leaders in Training session on Thursday, February 13! Facilitated by reachAbility's CEO Tova Sherman and Camp reachAbility Directors and Coordinators, the session explored the importance of recreation, and why it's important to play! Lots of returning Camp reachAbility were present, so we spent time reminiscing about last Summer's camp, and looked forward to the upcoming season. We even danced!
reachAbilitiy’s LIT program is designed to help participants develop the skills and confidence needed to build relationships and increase the effectiveness of initiatives used to work with people with disabilities through workshops in areas such as recreation, disability awareness and non-violent communication. We developed LIT to reflect what Camp reachAbility staff said would make them even better leaders. It’s a great opportunity for people to get grounded in new ways to approach working with people of all abilities. LIT 2014 runs from February to May.
Our next LIT session, Non-Violent Communication, takes place on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 1-5 p.m. Facilitated by Casey Vaasjo, the workshop will make communication feel easier by using a relatively simple, yet profoundly different framework.
The tools of Non-Violent Communication help us transform situations where we feel uncomfortable, angry, upset, or afraid, into opportunities for satisfaction, growth, and connection. We can practice empowered self-expression and conflict resolution that is direct and compassionate. By shifting out of a mindset based on what is ‘wrong’ to a perspective of meeting needs, we can find mutual resolution much quicker and easier.
Please visit the Camp reachAbility website's LIT page for more information on this workshop. Capacity is limited to 15, so please RSVP if you plan to attend: Manda at (902) 429-5878, or email@example.com.
