HALIFAX, N.S–The Bluenose-Ability Film Festival (BAFF) presented by reachAbility is back for its third year. BAFF is excited to announce that a new director will be running the festival. Sarah Marshall, a recent public relations graduate, was hired through the “Graduate to Opportunity” grant. This grant gives young graduates an opportunity to directly enter the workforce by covering one-third of their salary.

Marshall, 23, is grateful to be working with BAFF and reachAbility: “I’m excited to promote disability and diversity culture in our community. It’s great to jump right into work in a field I’m passionate about. I’m eager to apply my education to help make a difference.”

Grants like “Graduate to Opportunity” help not-for-profit organizations like reachAbility hire talented young professionals without having to over-extend their budget. Marshall brings writing, film editing, graphic design, social media expertise, and a new perspective to both BAFF and reachAbility.

BAFF is Atlantic Canada’s first and only disability film festival for youth and adults. This year’s theme is “150 Years of Diversity,” in honour of the Canada 150 celebrations. BAFF encourages participation of persons with disabilities in a media event that celebrates the unique contributions of disability arts and culture. Marshall’s keeping busy confirming sponsors and events while promoting the festival year-round.

The festival will take place November 30 through December 3, 2017, at the Halifax Central Library. The awards ceremony and gala is taking place December 3, at 7 p.m. at the Paul O’Reagan Hall at Halifax Central Library. Attendees can look forward to exciting events such as a mental health discussion panel, LGBTQIA+ screening, and youth filmmaking workshops. All festival events are free thanks to the generosity of sponsors, partners and volunteers.

The full festival schedule will be released upon confirmation of events. Visit www.baff.ca for more information. Questions regarding the festival may be directed to baff@reachability.org or by calling Sarah at 902.429.5878
